" Payment Method Rights and Remedies PayPal Purchase Protection If you click the Paypal Policies link, this is the portion of the page describing "Purchase Protection" I would like to invite other people who have been victims of Fraud through Friends and Family to come together and reply to my post, It is not acceptable for PayPal to not take any responsibility for this.View PayPal policies and your payment method rights. Please don’t reply unless you’ve got something helpful to add. Whether the money went through F&F or not they are still giving criminals a platform to exploit people, tell me any where else they can do that and get away Scott free? Leaving the full consequence of it to fall on the victim. PayPal have his bank details and other vital information to take to the police which I don’t have! But don’t seem at all interested in helping. There must have been suspicion about him from PayPal because originally his email had been blocked by them, it should have stayed that way. People like that should be blocked from using PayPal, and there should have been a period of grace time in which I could have reversed the payment, it happened so quickly and I knew almost immediately that I’d been scammed but could not reverse it. This is still a crime, I was lied to bullied and conned not to mention robbed, this person has used PayPal, F&F to get away with it, I would have had more protection had I payed via direct debit from my bank account. I know all that now of course in hindsight and I will never make that mistake again, as I said I was new to PayPal and didn’t realise the risk. I feel violated and helpless also incredibly angry with my self. I can’t even go to the police as I have no information about this person only email addresses and gumtree add. I payed through direct debit but my bank are refusing to help even tho PayPal have told me that they do have the power to do so. The other reason I’m annoyed with my self if that the first transaction got rejected by PayPal saying that his email address was not authorised by them and I was refunded I felt so relieved, but also I wasn’t in a hurry for the item and would have been happy to pay the fee for buyers protection, I wish I’d left it there as sadly he must have got it authorised promptly as it did go through the second time. I have been in a vulnerable place due to stress home schooling and taking care of a disabled parent and wasn’t thinking straight, I just followed his instructions, money’s been tight because of work loss as a result of COVID-19 and I was trying to by a computer for homeschooling, it was a good price. I let the so called seller (who had advertised his item through gumtree) instruct me on how to pay through PayPal, I was new to this and was setting up my account at the same and had never sent money to an email address before, I know I was stupid to have believed him, he used COVID as a reason for me not to collect the item (an IPad) in person, and I’d always found traders on gumtree to be trustworthy in the past. I made the stupid mistake of buying something through F&F, it happened about 3 weeks ago and has caused me a lot of anguish.
